Numerose novità caratterizzano l'8^a edizione delle Giornate Europee del Cinema e dell'Audiovisivo, che quest'anno saranno l'occasione per fare a Torino un giro del mondo dei media in 3 giorni, esplorando i nuovi percorsi del cross-media, del transmedia e dei contenuti per il web... senza per questo trascurare il documentario lineare e le nuove dimensioni del cinema.

 

La prima novità riguarda le date: le Giornate Europee si svolgeranno da giovedì 16 a sabato 18 settembre 2010, al Centro Congressi della Regione Piemonte, in corso Stati Uniti 23 a Torino.

 

Secondo elemento di novità: si accentua il processo di trasformazione, avviato nel 2009 con il focus dedicato al cross-media (la registrazione integrale del Cross-media day è ora disponibile a www.europeandays.eu), mantenendo la collaborazione con il CrossOver Lab di Sheffield e il premio Skylogic Award al miglior progetto crossmediale.

La nostra attenzione sarà concentrata sulla nuova dimensione del transmedia, che del cross-media è la piena evoluzione, sia in termini di produzione che di elaborazione del contenuto. Da notare che la PGA/Producers Guild of America ha ufficialmente introdotto una nuova figura professionale, il transmedia producer (vedi www.deadline.com) in cui anche alcuni operatori della nostra filiera audiovisiva attuale potranno riconoscersi.

 

In occasione del lancio del bando per progetti di documentario e cross-media destinati al Co-production Forum, che sarà pubblicato alla fine di maggio, segnaleremo alcune tematiche che paiono più consone a questi nuovi ambiti (scienza e storia, ma anche arte ed economia, e la varia galassia dei games) e che possono rivelarsi particolarmente interessanti per i soggetti finanziari (riviste, quotidiani, vettori di telefonia mobile, webTv e IPTv, etc) che inviteremo a Torino.

 

Resta tuttavia ben presente nella nostra programmazione il documentario lineare destinato al cinema e alla televisione. In quest'ambito, la terza dimensione innovativa sta nella diversa formulazione delle sessioni di pitching di documentari: non più e non solo il tradizionale quarto d'ora di presentazione, ma la scelta preliminare di 5 o 6 progetti, selezionati tra quelli pervenuti, che saranno presentati in anteprima a commissioning editor internazionali chiamati a "sostenerli" in pubblico, motivando la loro scelta. Occasione ideale perchè i commissioning editor presenti possano illustrare le linee editoriali della propria struttura e conoscere gli altri progetti presenti al Co-production Forum.

 

Il quarto elemento da segnalare è l'evento speciale scelto per l'inaugurazione, nel pomeriggio di giovedì 16 settembre. Abbiamo chiesto a Hugues Le Paige, importante autore belga da tempo partecipe delle vicende del documentarismo italiano, regista del documentario "Fare Politica" (diffuso da Real Cinema/Feltrinelli nel 2008), un intervento ad ampio raggio sul tema "la rappresentazione della politica nel documentario" (ambito in cui ha realizzato alcune opere passate alla storia del documentario europeo), discutendone con ospiti e colleghi invitati per l'occasione.

 

 

Quinto - last but not least - intendiamo lanciare una sfida sul Cinema, quello che nelle sale cinematografiche oggi appare sempre più stretto tra l'affermarsi planetario del 3D e la rarefazione degli spazi d'accesso riservati al cinema d'autore. Nelle Giornate Europee 2010 vorremmo creare un momento di riflessione a tutto campo che coinvolga autori, creativi, produttori, ‘artigiani digitali' e web marketer, chiamandoli a discutere sul cinema a bassissimo costo... in altre parole, il cinema "oltre il cinema". Cercheremo di dare al nostro ambiente e ai nostri partecipanti nuovi stimoli per nuove sfide, di cui oggi c'è un gran bisogno, specialmente nel nostro Paese.

 

Resterà quindi fuori dal programma delle Giornate Europee 2010 il cinema convenzionale, che comunque trova numerose altre occasioni di confronto, sempre più frequenti in sedi nazionali ed internazionali, dedicati ad autori e produttori alle prese con trattamenti, sceneggiature e budget di produzione.

 

 

Questi sono i contenuti proposti dall'8^a edizione del nostro evento, rivolto alla produzione indipendente italiana ed europea, agli autori, ai creativi e ai nuovi talenti dell'industria audiovisiva e della rete. Numerous new features mark the 8th edition of the European Cinema and Audiovisual Days, which will offer the opportunity to take a three-day media tour to explore new directions in cross-media, trans-media and web content. As always, themes concerning the linear documentary and new developments in cinema will also mark the event.

 

The first piece of news regards the date of the event: the European Cinema and Audiovisual Days will be held from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 September 2010, at the Centro Congressi Regione Piemonte, in Corso Stati Uniti 23 in Torino.

 

The second new feature: we are accentuating the process of transformation, begun in 2009, with a focus on cross-media (you can find the entire recording of the Cross-media Day at www.europeandays.eu), maintaining our collaboration with the CrossOver Lab of Sheffield and renewing the Skylogic Award for the best cross-media project.

Our attention will be concentrated on the new dimension of trans-media - the logical development of cross-media - both in terms of production and in terms of elaboration of content. Noteworthy is the PGA/Producers Guild of America's official decision to include a new professional credit, the transmedia producer (see http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/producers-guild-of-america-vote-on-creation-%20of-new-credit-transmedia-producer/).

 

At the end of May, when the call for documentary and cross-media projects for the Co-production Forum will be announced, we will point out the theme areas that seem to be more appropriate to these new spheres of interest (science and history, as well as art and economics and the varied galaxy of games) and that can reveal themselves to be particularly interesting to the financial  partners (magazines, newspapers, vectors of mobile telephones, web TV and IP-TV, etc) that we plan to invite to Torino.

 

This said, the linear documentary for cinema and television release remains a mainstay in our programming. Nevertheless, in the third innovation of the 2010 edition, we have opted for a different formulation of the pitching sessions for documentaries: there will not be only the traditional 15-minute presentation, but a preliminary selection of 5 or 6 projects which will be previewed by international commissioning editors. They will be called on to "support" their choices in public, an ideal occasion for the participating commissioning editors to illustrate the editorial lines of the structures they work for and get to know the other projects of the Co-production Forum.

 

The fourth highlighted feature is the special event we have chosen to inaugurate the European Days, on the afternoon of Thursday, 16 September. We have asked Hugues Le Paige, an important Belgian author involved in the Italian documentary scene for a long time and director of the documentary "Fare Politica" (distributed by Real Cinema/Feltrinelli in 2008), to speak on the representation of politics in the documentary (a field in which he has realised a number of works which have marked the history of the European documentary); he will discuss the topic with guests and colleagues who will be invited for the occasion.

 

 

And last but not least, the fifth new feature: we intend to launch a challenge about Cinema, the cinema which today seems always more connected with the rising tide of 3D around the world and leaves less and less room for art films and cinema d'auteurs. At the 2010 European Days we aim to get authors, creative people, producers, "digital craftspeople" and web marketers involved in a discussion and reflection on very low-budget cinema... in other words, cinema "beyond cinema". We will try to give to our event and to our participants new stimuli for new challenges, of which there is a big need today, especially in Italy.

The programming of this year's European Days will therefore not include conventional cinema, the object of many other national and international venues dedicated to authors and producers concerned with treatments, scripts and production budgets.

 

These are the themes proposed for the eighth edition of our event, directed to Italian and European independent production, to authors, creative people, and new talents of the audiovisual industry and the web.
